World Maths Day
Tuesday October 15 saw students and staff celebrate World Maths Day focusing on “giving it a go”.
Staff and Prefects proudly all wore their “Maths Team” red t-shirts. Morning break was filled with opportunities for students to take part in games bringing to the fore their problem solving prowess.
Much fun and excitement was had by all that attended, particularly when sweets were distributed to award effort and team work. Games such as Jenga, Find the objects in this scene, among others were on offer for students to choose from.
Classes that day contained Problem Solving team relays with staff distributing problems as eager team members ran to the front to submit their answer and see if it was correct. Throughout the day students were able to take part in the Famous Mathematicians Fact Finding Treasure Hunt, where the Grand Prize of a £15 movie voucher was up for grabs.
Posters containing facts relating to various famous Mathematicians were placed all over the school. Students did not only have to find the posters, a challenge in itself, but then find the question on their question sheet which may have related to that Mathematician. All answers were hidden within the posters information. We congratulate Caden De-Mattia from 8R on winning the Movie voucher and Gwendoline Price & Carolina Setubal from 9E on coming 2ndand taking away some problem solving prizes to enjoy at home.
