Star Students of the Term

Year 7 - Darcy C

Darcy has been consistently getting it right each and every day since starting her journey at Barnwood Park. She is an excellent role model for her peers and always upholds the school values. Well done!

Year 8 - Rio T

Rio has had an excellent start to Year 8. He has adapted so well to the changes and new routines. He is a really positive role model to Year 7 students and his peers. Well done Rio!

Year 9 - Will B

Will is an exemplary student, conscientious and gives 100% to everything he does both in school and out.  This is recognised in his amazing achievements in Tennis, representing Great Britain and more recently he reached the men's final at the Nationals. Will's school work and sunny disposition has not faltered and his confidence has increased.

Year 10 - Jack H

Jack has 100% attendance and demonstrates an excellent work ethic across all of his subjects. He went above and beyond by refereeing the 2 Girls Football tournaments this term. Great work Jack, keep it up!

Year 11 - Emma-Louise B

Emma-Louise is working extremely well, and we have seen a positive attitude from her and to her work since coming back in Year 11. She has shown resilience this year and works to the best of her ability in lessons, always trying and attempting everything that is done in class. Emma-Louise will also support other students who are struggling within the class, thinking about others as well as herself. Well done Emma-Louise - keep up the good work.

Winter Showcase

Barnwood Park hosted the KS1 Christmas-themed Multi-Skills Festival. Over 900 children took part in a wonderful range of activities including, naughty elves, target aiming, balancing challenges, dressing up races, and many more! Barnwood Park GCSE PE students helped lead the activities. It was a very exciting day and everyone had a wonderful time!

Over 50 students performed in the Winter Showcase last week. We saw dancing, singing and a musical number. What a fantastic night! A video of the evening will be available on request (please contact Miss Saunders).

Well done to the Y7 girls who competed in the U12s District Football Tournament at Severn Vale on 3rd December.

The U14 girls narrowly missed out on the semi-finals as they went to penalties in the Gloucester Schools Football Tournament. Excellent play from all.

Well done to the students from across the school, who represented Barnwood Park in the Gloucester Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships during November.

Luke Orchard, our Poet Laureate, has been hard at work in his role this term producing a poem on the topic of Change.

Stoic Reminders

Tonight, as you step out

Out the school, or stars

Look around

As many of you have looked round before

Before summer came,

And summer went

Before school was school,

And home was so very

Far away

Gaze at the window’s glass

That tease the glimmer of glow,

Stare at the walls

So grey and torn

In their attire, yet

Elegantly dressed

With the memories of those who

Came long before you

Last period, last year,

These rooms

You must have sat within

Must have stared into,

Never change

Forever grey as you grow

And replace yourself,

As you turn through the pages of life

The pages of these rooms,

Remain dormant still,

Never shifting

Never changing

A stoic reminder

Of what truly has changed.

Student Success'

Cody H (Y10) and Bradley H (Y8) - Judo

In November, they both represented Barnwood Park in the ‘Western Area Schools Judo Championships’.

Bradley fought in the Year 8 - Year 9 category, winning 3 out of his 4 fights to take the silver medal.

Cody fought in the Year 10 - Year 13 category; however, there was no one else in his weight category, so he had to fight up a weight category. Cody won all 3 of his fights, taking the gold medal.

What a fantastic achievement—well done both!

Will B (Y9) - Tennis

"I had a great end to a busy year of wheelchair tennis by reaching the men's final in the Nationals in Shrewsbury. This ended a successful year- highlights of which were winning 'Play your way to Wimbledon' in August and representing Great Britain in 'The World Team Cup' in Turkey in May. I am looking forward to what 2025 brings "

A brilliant year! Well done Will.

McKenzie O (Y11) - Swimming and Tennis

"I have been busy competing throughout November and December in wheelchair tennis and swimming.

Wheelchair tennis – I competed in the National event which was held in Shrewsbury.  In the Men’s singles draw, I lost my first round match to last year's winner but played well throughout the consolation draw, getting to the final and winning the runner-up trophy.  Men’s doubles – my partner and I played well to get through to the semi-finals.  I also played in the Junior doubles – My partner and I played well throughout the rounds, getting to the final.  The final was close – we won the match on match tie break making us the National Champions!

Swimming.  I have competed in Welsh Regionals (Newport), Para-Nationals (Sandwell – the new pool built for Commonwealth games) and Welsh Winter Nationals in Swansea.  I have been focussing on 3 main events across these meets – 200IM (this is 50 metres of all strokes), 100 back and 400 Free.  I have taken time off all of my races in the past few weeks which I am pleased with as this shows that the technique I am working on is working.  In Swansea, I qualified to swim in 2 finals and I won Gold in 100 back and Silver in the 200IM final.

Well done McKenzie! We look forward to hearing about your achievements in 2025!
