This term has seen the start of the Football season: some great performances against Henley Bank and Gloucester Academy.

Girl's fixtures have remained with Netball.

Year 10: Win 13 –4 and 24-1 against GA

Year 9: Win 33-3 vs GA, Win 24-7 against SV

Year 8: Win 12-3 against SV

Year 7: Win 5-3 against HB, lost 12-3 against SV

Cricket News

Boys

We hosted the boys indoor cricket tournament and U13 boys won both of their fixtures against Forest High school and Five Acres, progressing through to the next stage.

U15 boys lost their match against Pate's Grammar School and won against Gloucester Academy School.

Girls

The U15 team travelled to Pates and played two tough matches. Losing out to Pates Grammar School and narrowly to Denmark Road.

Kit Expectations

All students are expected to bring in their PE kit and get changed, even if they are excused. All classes will start to be outside, and the weather is unpredictable. A note, preferably a doctor's note, should be provided for any student who is unable to take part practically.

From Easter we would like all students to be in white socks for all practical lessons. Reminder not to get anything pierced as it may cause injury to themselves or someone else.

Student Review of Equine Therapy

Last week I was fortunate to attend The Horse Course (Centred Horseplay) at a small centre in the Cotswolds.  To have a successful experience I needed to make the horses feel secure by showing them that I could be part of the herd. 

Horses respond to even the most subtle cues and energy.  Minor adjustments were required to fine-tune how I thought I was coming across to the horse.  I learnt that the ability to slightly adjust and adapt could make all the difference in getting the horses to cooperate.  Horses can provide affection once they feel comfortable, but they can also teach how to respect their personal space, as they do not respond well if they feel crowded. 

Each session I: 

• Spent time observing the horses and their behaviours 
• Groomed the horses 
• Offered them food or treats 
• Led a horse on a walk in an enclosed area 
• Guided a horse through an obstacle course and trail 

I learnt that handling, riding and caring for a horse or pony can develop positivity, responsibility, accountability, patience, kindness and self-discipline.

Barnwood Young Writers have had another fantastic term. Over the last few weeks we have been looking closely at crafting interesting stories that grip our reader and provide interesting perspectives.
