Careers/Post-16

This term, Year 11 students have had the opportunity to attend meetings with an Independent Careers Advisor to discuss their Post-16 options.

The students have been on visits to Sixth Forms, Colleges, and Apprenticeship companies. Lots of applications have been made, interviews are taking place and acceptances are coming through.

Please be reminded that all Year 11 students must have somewhere to go to when they leave Barnwood Park this July.  Deadlines have now passed for applications to schools and colleges – you can still apply, but you may not get your first choice of course.  If you would like any assistance with this, please contact Miss Dallimore (Careers Leader), who will be happy to help.

Information is regularly sent out to Year 11 and to parents/carers about opportunities so please look out for these.

----------------

Year 10 students will be out on Work Experience for the week of 30th June - 4th July 2025. Thank you to all of those who have completed their forms and also a big thank you to you for your help with finding a placement for your young person.

At this time, there are still 55% of students who have not returned their forms. All students need to find a placement for this week.  Miss Dallimore still has some placement opportunities available, so please make contact for more information or to assist you in finding a suitable option ASAP. More information and the form can be found on the Work Experience page on our school website.

To give our Year 10s a head start on their Post-16 applications, Careers in collaboration with PSHE, arranged for GROWS to come into PSHE lessons to give their Post-16 Pathways workshop to Year 10 students. The workshops help advise the students of what opportunities they have when leaving Barnwood, e.g. A or T Levels, Vocational courses or Apprenticeships.  Booklets were handed out in the sessions for students with more information. If you have not had a booklet please let Miss Dallimore know.

--------------------------

The “Careers Drop In” at break and lunchtime continues to be very busy with over 5 students a day coming along for a chat about their future, assistance with applications, finding work experience placements or a form.  All years are welcome to pop along at break, lunchtime or after school.  Year 11s also have Tuesday after school at champion’s hour to speak about careers.

Careers at Barnwood Online Information Board – Padlet – An Online information board has been created for all students to have access to information about careers via the student intranet page.

Staff have been sharing their career journeys by filling out “Ask me About” posters, to give the students an idea of the different paths that can be taken, the variety of jobs that are out there and the different options to help students to find the best route for them.  Students and colleagues have been finding these really interesting, hearing about what others have previously done.

Having fun whilst finding out about different Careers ... Careers donated 2 sets of Panjango's Careers Top Trump cards and a Careers board game to the lunchtime Games Club.

Need a CV?

There is a CV Guide, full of information on creating a CV, a student template and other helpful info on the school website. Click here to find out more.

Any questions or assistance around careers please contact Miss Dallimore.

PE Department

What a fantastic term for the PE department!

Students from across the school have been taking part in matches and competitions against local schools. There has been lots of success from different teams in Netball, Football and Cricket. Well done everyone involved!

If you'd like to be part of a club next term, click here to find out what's on.

A reminder...

Year 7 + 8 PE lessons will be gendered as a trial.

- There is a PE survey on Edulink for the students to complete.

- PE kit is an expectation. This needs to be a full Barnwood Park PE kit including trainers. Lack of kit or suitable footwear will result in a strike. 2 consecutive strikes will equal a phone call home and 3 consecutive strikes result in AP referral.

- Communication can ONLY occur through email. Parents must email the student's teacher prior to 08:40am about any injuries or concerns to lesson participation. This is to allow ample time for the teacher to make adaptations to the lesson so that everyone is included and involved.

Student Success

Eliza (Y8) competed at the GB Skate Spring Solo Nationals in March.
She first skated a compulsory dance, where she placed 2nd. Her second dance was a free dance. This was Eliza's first time competing in a free dance, and she placed 4th.

Overall, she placed 2nd in her category for the weekend! What an amazing achievement for her first national competition, especially competing with children up to the age of 15.

Well done Eliza, what a super set of results!

In March Cody (Y10) & Bradley (Y8) travelled up to Sheffield to represent Barnwood Park in the British Schools Championships. This was the follow on event from the Western Area Schools Championships, where they participated in back in October 2024, which qualified them for this event.

Both Cody and Bradley won their category!

Cody is now the British Schools Champion for year 10/11 in his weight category and Bradley is now the British Schools Champion for year 8/9 in his weight category.

Well done - a fantastic result from both!
